  15. o   DISTRIBUTION
  16. •   These products will be available from authorized Apple resellers.
  17. •   Subscribers to the Apple Software Update Program will automatically receive
  18.     an upgrade kit, which will be shipped to them the week of May 13.  For
  19.     information on subscribing to this service, see the Apple Price List, or
  20.     look on AppleLink.

  25. •   The system software, without documentation, will also be available
  26.     through the User Groups and on-line services that are licensed to
  27.     distribute it.
  28.  •  Beginning in the July/August timeframe, Apple is planning a focused direct
  29.     mail campaign and print advertising to the installed base.  This campaign
  30.     focuses on the Personal Upgrade Kit and directs customers to their
  31.     resellers for upgrade information.  It also includes a Business Reply Card
  32.     and toll-free number for customers to order the Personal Upgrade Kit at
  33.     full suggested retail price.  (Note:  The Group Upgrade Kit will not be
  34.     available via the Business Reply Card or toll-free number.)  Beginning
  35.     mid-June, Apple will make this 800 number available to the field for use
  36.     with customers.

  38. o   UPGRADE KIT CONTENTS
  39. •   Personal Upgrade Kit
  40. Included with the 8 system software disks are "Before You Install" with
  41. Compatibility Checker, Macintosh Networking Basics training, the HyperCard
  42. Sampler version 2.1 and "HyperCard Basics," "What's New in Macintosh System
  43. Software Version 7.0," "Macintosh Reference," "Macintosh Networking Reference,"
  44. and 90 days of access to toll-free telephone upgrade assistance.

  46. •   Group Upgrade Kit
  47. Contents same as Personal Upgrade Kit, plus System 7 Group Upgrade Guide,
  48. System 7 Group Upgrade CD-ROM, software license agreement, and 180 days of
  49. access to toll-free telephone upgrade assistance.

  51. o   AVAILABILITY/ORDERING INFORMATION
  52. Orders for all System 7 products can be placed starting May 13.  In order to
  53. make Personal Upgrade Kits available before the intro date, we have developed a
  54. special program to allow each reseller to place ONE order before May 13.
  55.  
  56. •   SPECIAL PROGRAM FOR PERSONAL UPGRADE KITS
  57. This program was designed to ship available Personal Upgrade Kits to Resellers/
  58. Consultants prior to the System 7 introduction of May 13.  Kits will be in
  59. limited quantities and will be under strategic allocation.  Program guidelines
  60. are as follows:
  61. •   All Authorized Apple Dealers, Higher Education Campus Resellers, K-12 Apple
  62.     Education Sales Consultants (AESCs) and VARs are eligible to participate.
  63. •   April 29 through May 10 orders can be placed.  (Resellers/consultants are
  64.     urged to order early because allocations will be based on orders placed
  65.     from April 29 through May 2.)
  66. •   Resellers/consultants are limited to ONE order in this period
  67. •   The order must be placed with a special order form posted on AppleLink.
  68.     (See pathway below.)
  69. •   Program limited to the Personal Upgrade Kit (M8220LL/A; SRP $99,
  70.     Reseller/Consultant cost $79)
  71. •   Orders placed after May 2 will be filled as additional Personal Upgrade
  72.     Kits become available; however these orders will likely be delivered after
  73.     the System 7 introduction date.
  74. •   Orders should be made only for units needed at introduction.  All other
  75.     stocking orders (including Group Upgrade Kits) should be made via normal
  76.     methods starting May 13.
  77. •   Quantity and allocation:  There are no quantity limits or restrictions for
  78.     ordering.  However, Apple does not guarantee receipt of any number of units
  79.     by any specific date.  The units will be in limited supply and allocations
  80.     will be made strategically.
  81. •   ANY KITS RECEIVED PRIOR TO THE INTRODUCTION OF SYSTEM 7 MAY NOT BE RESOLD
  82.     UNTIL MAY 13.

  84. HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM
  85. •   Reseller/Consultants must submit the AppleLink Order Form and
  86.     Confidentiality Agreement to their appropriate Apple Support Center.  This
  87.     Form is posted along with pricing and participation guidelines as follows:

  92. •   Order Forms may be submitted to the Support Centers from Monday, April 29
  93.     through Friday, May 10.  Order Forms must be submitted via AppleLink, hard
  94.     copy, or facsimile.  Verbal orders and orders submitted via AppleOrder will
  95.     not be accepted.
  96. •   The Order Form may be submitted ONLY ONCE during the period stated above.
  97. •   Shipment:  Product will ship from the Support Centers and freight costs
  98.     will be the responsibility of the Reseller/Consultants.

  100. ACTION:  Urge your resellers/consultants to submit their Order Forms early.

  102. We expect to be off of allocation for Personal Upgrade Kits by the end of
  103. May/beginning of June.
