- o DISTRIBUTION
- • These products will be available from authorized Apple resellers.
- • Subscribers to the Apple Software Update Program will automatically receive
- an upgrade kit, which will be shipped to them the week of May 13. For
- information on subscribing to this service, see the Apple Price List, or
- look on AppleLink.

- • The system software, without documentation, will also be available
- through the User Groups and on-line services that are licensed to
- distribute it.
- • Beginning in the July/August timeframe, Apple is planning a focused direct
- mail campaign and print advertising to the installed base. This campaign
- focuses on the Personal Upgrade Kit and directs customers to their
- resellers for upgrade information. It also includes a Business Reply Card
- and toll-free number for customers to order the Personal Upgrade Kit at
- full suggested retail price. (Note: The Group Upgrade Kit will not be
- available via the Business Reply Card or toll-free number.) Beginning
- mid-June, Apple will make this 800 number available to the field for use
- with customers.

- o UPGRADE KIT CONTENTS
- • Personal Upgrade Kit
- Included with the 8 system software disks are "Before You Install" with
- Compatibility Checker, Macintosh Networking Basics training, the HyperCard
- Sampler version 2.1 and "HyperCard Basics," "What's New in Macintosh System
- Software Version 7.0," "Macintosh Reference," "Macintosh Networking Reference,"
- and 90 days of access to toll-free telephone upgrade assistance.

- • Group Upgrade Kit
- Contents same as Personal Upgrade Kit, plus System 7 Group Upgrade Guide,
- System 7 Group Upgrade CD-ROM, software license agreement, and 180 days of
- access to toll-free telephone upgrade assistance.

- o AVAILABILITY/ORDERING INFORMATION
- Orders for all System 7 products can be placed starting May 13. In order to
- make Personal Upgrade Kits available before the intro date, we have developed a
- special program to allow each reseller to place ONE order before May 13.

- • SPECIAL PROGRAM FOR PERSONAL UPGRADE KITS
- This program was designed to ship available Personal Upgrade Kits to Resellers/
- Consultants prior to the System 7 introduction of May 13. Kits will be in
- limited quantities and will be under strategic allocation. Program guidelines
- are as follows:
- • All Authorized Apple Dealers, Higher Education Campus Resellers, K-12 Apple
- Education Sales Consultants (AESCs) and VARs are eligible to participate.
- • April 29 through May 10 orders can be placed. (Resellers/consultants are
- urged to order early because allocations will be based on orders placed
- from April 29 through May 2.)
- • Resellers/consultants are limited to ONE order in this period
- • The order must be placed with a special order form posted on AppleLink.
- (See pathway below.)
- • Program limited to the Personal Upgrade Kit (M8220LL/A; SRP $99,
- Reseller/Consultant cost $79)
- • Orders placed after May 2 will be filled as additional Personal Upgrade
- Kits become available; however these orders will likely be delivered after
- the System 7 introduction date.
- • Orders should be made only for units needed at introduction. All other
- stocking orders (including Group Upgrade Kits) should be made via normal
- methods starting May 13.
- • Quantity and allocation: There are no quantity limits or restrictions for
- ordering. However, Apple does not guarantee receipt of any number of units
- by any specific date. The units will be in limited supply and allocations
- will be made strategically.
- • ANY KITS RECEIVED PRIOR TO THE INTRODUCTION OF SYSTEM 7 MAY NOT BE RESOLD
- UNTIL MAY 13.

- HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM
- • Reseller/Consultants must submit the AppleLink Order Form and
- Confidentiality Agreement to their appropriate Apple Support Center. This
- Form is posted along with pricing and participation guidelines as follows:

- • Order Forms may be submitted to the Support Centers from Monday, April 29
- through Friday, May 10. Order Forms must be submitted via AppleLink, hard
- copy, or facsimile. Verbal orders and orders submitted via AppleOrder will
- not be accepted.
- • The Order Form may be submitted ONLY ONCE during the period stated above.
- • Shipment: Product will ship from the Support Centers and freight costs
- will be the responsibility of the Reseller/Consultants.

- ACTION: Urge your resellers/consultants to submit their Order Forms early.

- We expect to be off of allocation for Personal Upgrade Kits by the end of
- May/beginning of June.
